Smart is NOT smart at all

If you use the latest so called SMART technology you and everything you do is under the microscope literally !

It is beyond my comprehension WHY anyone would PAY to place cameras in their own home to allow others to spy on them and leave themselves open to security threats and privacy invasion

here are just a few things to consider before buying anything SMART

Indoor smart cameras can be hacked.

A worrying story hit the internet in December 2019, whereby a couple’s Ring camera was ‘hacked’, allowing the hacker to view – and talk to – the couple’s children playing in the nursery - scary stuff

Alexa tells 10-year-old girl to touch live plug with penny
Amazon Alexa voice assistant  "challenged" a 10-year-old girl to touch a coin to the prongs of a half-inserted plug.

The suggestion came after the girl asked Alexa for a "challenge to do".

"Plug in a phone charger about halfway into a wall outlet, then touch a penny to the exposed prongs," the smart speaker said. THANKFULLY the child's mother was present and stopped it

facial recognition feature

Did you know that when you walk past a Nest Cam IQ (even an Outdoor IQ one), your face gets scanned, analyzed and stored away in Google’s facial recognition database?

Over-reliance on technology, even for thinking and calculating

Being able to ask Alexa, Google Assistant and Siri to do basic calculations and also get answers from the web is really convenient, but it’s also potentially a bad/dangerous thing because it can stop people thinking for themselves

Your personal data might be shared… or sold

A big selling point of smart technology is that it’s all controllable via ‘the cloud’

Going cold – no heat if your smart thermostat plays up or if you are going against the system

Going dark – no light if your smart lights have issues

Your personal data may be stored on the device itself

For example, a smart light bulb may store the WiFi password on it (so that it can connect to the WiFi password), or a smart thermostat may store information relating to your local area (maybe your actual address?) and desired heating schedules.

Whilst this might not seem like an issue, if you just throw the device out in the trash, it can be recovered and these personal details can be read.

Increased chance of fire risk

the average homeowner is unlikely to rewire their house to have more wall outlets installed.

So what do they do? They turn to extension leads. This is fine at first, but if you have a lot of smart devices, you could end up with more and more extension leads.

Increases sedentary lifestyle
